This is the Easter basket that Kimmie made for her Mom just a month or
so before her accident. See the bear? That's the one that is in the image
on the main page. Mary temporarily "loaned" it back to Kimmie :)
This picture of Kimmie was taken the day before her accident. She was
at her Granny & Grampa's house. (That's her younger brother's leg there...the
brother who was driving her Jeep when they were hit).
This is another photo from around Day 2. It's a bit clearer than the one
I had up originally, so I thought I'd include it here as well.
This is another one from around Day 7. You can see that she was "posturing"
a bit then...she would keep that left hand pulled back at the wrist like
that and draw it into such a tight fist you couldn't open it! She already
had the ability to "pinch" with that thumb and forefinger...she would often
pinch at her bedclothes and anything you placed near her hand. That index
finger is the first finger she held up on command...and she gave me a "thumbs
up" with that thumb before she left for Kansas :)
NOW FOR THE NEWER PICS!!!!!
NOTE: These are NOT the latest photos...but my sister
somehow managed to pack the last set where she can't find them (when they
left rehab for home)!!!! She is getting yet a third set developed as we speak,
though...so maybe soon we will have better ones of Kimmie actually walking,
etc... I'm keeping on my sister about it! :) The set she lost has the
first pics of her when she started rehab and began standing with a walker,
sitting more normally in a chair, brushing her hair, etc... This last set
she is getting developed will have the really good pics, I would imagine...
things like her walking by herself, actually smiling, going out on the town,
leaving the rehab for home, eating real food, her going-home party, etc...
I can hardly wait!!!
Here is one of Kimmie shortly after she awoke from her coma. She
was still on the trach oxygen at that time. She would probably say
it was a bad picture of her...I say she's absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! :):):)
Here's another one taken not too long after her "awakening". Notice the
right hand is still almost useless in this photo. She's now trying
to write with that hand again!! She is beginning to show more
facial expressions now, of course...and Mary said that now she is smiling
with both sides of her mouth...at first, it was rather lop-sided. Both
of her eyes are now looking straight ahead, as well...geeze...it's
the simple things in life that are amazing, huh???? :)
Here is Kimmie sitting up in her wheelchair :) Notice her right arm in
this particular photo...you'll see what just a relatively short time of non-use
can do to a limb. Notice also that the "posturing" has ceased now
and her hand is open more naturally. :)
I saved the best for last, of course!! (OK The best pic that I happen
to have at the moment...I'm sure there are much better ones coming).
Here is Kimberly Anne
standing up out of bed with the help of 2 physical therapists.
Is that an intense look on her face or what!?!?!? Notice the hair
is growing back on her head now. :) This was taken before she had her
trach removed...so just imagine how great she must look now!!!
Remember that she is now walking unaided with her walker and
can walk WITHOUT the walker as long as she has someone next
to her for balance! Not bad for the girl who wasn't supposed to wake
up!!! :):):):)
OK That's it for now...but Mary should be sending the next (more
recent) batch soon!
