I haven't updated this site in quite some time! I've moved recently and have been VERY busy...
Note: I've also updated the Main Page quite a bit in an effort to make this site more complete and helpful to those who are still searching for answers and explanations. It now details things that happened along the way much more than before. I hope that it helps.
Kimberly Anne is doing so great! I've spoken with her a few times in these past few weeks and she sounds great. Her voice is strong, although still a bit slurred. If that's the only major problem lingering at this point, I think we'll live with it. :) Mary says that Kim's memory is returning as she is reminded of things...looking at old photos and things of hers from her teaching days...they came across an article she had written for the Kansas Geological Society and although she was surprised at how good it was, but she did remember writing it. So, even though it seems that she can't remember things, she actually does...she just needs to be reminded of them! She's had a full and exciting life, so I think she has many more surprises in store for her over the next year or so... especially when she and her fiance move next month and she begins unpacking all of her stuff that's been in storage since before the accident!!
I am updating at this point to place a download file here for you all...especially for Kimmie, herself. It's the song "I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack. It's a country music song, but if you don't like country or have never heard the song, it's well worth downloading & listening to! It's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard in my life. It was this song that broke my somewhat stoic, "keep-your-emotions-in-line attitude" that I maintained when Kimmie first had her accident. I was going to see her in N.I.C.U. sometime around the second week...when this song came on the radio. I already knew the song & liked it...and was quietly singing along when emotional overload took place. I lost it ...and I mean LOST IT. I am not one prone to tears...but I broke down sobbing uncontrollably that day. I was hurting for Kimmie...not for myself...nor for my sister...but for Kim...for all the things she had yet to accomplish in this life...for all the happiness yet to be...for "what might have been", at that point. I wanted so much to be able to blink and make ME the one lying in that bed...letting HER be the one to "dance"...to enjoy living and loving. After that, I couldn't bear to listen to it anymore...until now. *smiles* It's now a song of hope, of joy...a celebration of life...for me. I love listening to it, although it does still, at times, bring happy tears. I just wanted to share that with Kimmie now. I love you, Kim.
I am also including lyrics for a few other songs that Mary and I listened to repeatedly during Kimmie's coma days...whereas the one song above is a "happy song", the others are likely to bring tears. I am mainly placing them here for my sister, now that we have come so far...numerous times I watched her fight back tears while singing to Kimmie in her hospital bed:
"If I could make days last forever...if words could make wishes come true... I'd save every day like a treasure and then again I would spend them with you..." (lyrics from "If I Could Save Time In a Bottle" by Jim Croce)
They are not meant to make anyone more sad than they already are, but I know that I listened to them repeatedly, myself. Somehow, they help cope...don't ask me why. I don't have that answer.
Kimmie & her fiance, Joel, are getting ready to leave this coming Saturday for a Caribbean cruise. Kimmie and Mary went out and bought an elegant evening gown and ultra-sleek high heels for the occasion...she will dance her heart out, hopefully! She's been practicing for 2 weeks in her high heels on her treadmill! *smiles* Mary has pictures, so they'll be up SOON. She has promised that they are "in the mail" as I type. Of course, we'll have to wait to see Kimmie in her full glory (evening gown & all). The ones I am getting are of her on the treadmill in high heels and rolled-up jeans!! *laughs* Kimmie has worn her baseball cap ever since "waking up". Her hair has grown in kinda straight up *smiles*, but she is getting it cut and styled shorter just before they leave for the cruise. I can't wait to see it. (I just talked to Mary on the phone and she says that Kimmie got her hair cut really short and it looks great... VERY short, but great!)
Ahh...before I could even get this update done, the NEW PHOTOS arrived!! They are great! C l i c k h e r e t o v i e w t h e m n o w ! There's always a story behind photos...I won't give explanations for them all, but the one of Kimmie & her fiance, Joel, dancing...that one is too cool :) Mary took them to her work and had dedicated a song to them "to Kim & Joel...from Mom". They danced to the song "Tell Me You'll Love Me For a Million Years".
Kimmie, Mary, & Joel will be in Kentucky to visit us all around the 15th of next month!! I am so excited. I can't wait to actually see her and hug her! It seems like so long since I've seen her. It's odd how time does that to you. It's only been 5 months since she was here visiting before...and yet it seems like another lifetime. Kim & Joel just bought another vehicle. It's another Jeep Grand Cherokee, of course. In Kimmie's own words to me on the phone the other day..."they're sturdy!" *smiles big* Guess you can't argue with that one!
Enjoy your cruise, Kimmie - I hope you dance!

**The only song listed above that doesn't have lyrics on the linked lyrics.html page is "These are the Moments" by Sara Evans, so I've placed them here for you.
"These Are The Moments"
Lying here with you
Listening to the rain
Smile just to see the smile upon your face
These are the moments I thank God that I'm alive
And these are the moments I'll remember all my life
I've found all I've waited for
And I could not ask for more
Looking in your eyes
Seeing all I need
Everything you are is everything in me
These are the moments
I know heaven must exist
And these are the moments
I know all I need is this
I've found all I've waited for, yeah
And I could not ask for more
I could not ask for more than this time together
I could not ask for more than this time with you
And every prayer has been answered
Every dream I've had's come true
Yeah, right here in this moment
Is right where I'm meant to be
Here with you here with me
Yeah
These are the moments I thank God that I'm alive
And these are the moments I'll remember all my life
I've found all I've waited for
And I could not ask for more
I could not ask for more than this time together
I could not ask for more than this time with you
And every prayer has been answered
Every dream I've had's come true
Yeah, right here in this moment
Is right where I'm meant to be
Oh, here with you here with me
No, I could not ask for more
Than this love you gave me
Cause it's all I've waited for
And I could not ask for more
No, yeah
No, I could not ask for more
