As Snagglepuss, the cartoon character, used to say, "HEAVENS TO MERGATROIDS!"
Are you all ready for this????
KIMMIE IS TEACHING AGAIN!!
Miss Oakley signed her teaching contract last week. She will be the Title I teacher for the school that was
going to hire her before her accident. She says, "I have three reading groups (1st and 2nd grades) in the morning,
and I'll have three math groups (4th grade) at lunchtime, and three reading groups (5th grade) in the afternoon. So,
I'll be busy and couldn't be happier about it. I've been tired, but it's such a good feeling - much better than being bored."
For those of you who don't know what a "Title I" teacher is, here's a definition I grabbed off the internet for you:
"The mission of Title I, a federally funded program is to remediate the basic skill areas of educationally deprived children from
low income areas. In order to achieve this goal, remedial groups are established either in the classroom or in the small group
"pull-out" model. Basic skill areas which may be addressed are reading, language arts/communication or mathematics. Grade
levels and skill areas are determined by individual building plans which are developed each spring. The remedial program is
designed for elementary students in kindergarten through grade eight."

Here's another interesting tidbit that even I didn't know about until Kim's last e-mail to me about the teaching position:
She had volunteered at this same school last year - helping kids with science projects and in the library - and they gave
her a "Community Volunteer of the Year" award at the end of the year! Now that's something to be proud of!
I've asked Kim to send me new pictures, but she hasn't sent me any recently...so I guess we'll just have to wait.
She's doing great and seems VERY happy to be back in the classroom "for real". I couldn't be happier for her!
My big sister was right - sometimes there really is a "happily ever after"!
Thank you to all who have sent e-mails and prayers for Kimberly!!
It really does help and each one is appreciated!
The Drs said it would take a miracle...our miracle
has happened!!
